St. Mark’s Music Department

The music at St. Mark’s church is for the worship of God and edification of the worshipers. Choirs and organs have been the traditional means of leading worship in the Episcopal Church for centuries.

ST. MARK’S CHOIR is a mixed ensemble for singers from high school through senior citizen ages. It sings repertoire from Gregorian chant through the Renaissance, baroque, romantic and modern eras. It sings primarily on Sundays at the 10:30 a.m. Choral Eucharist as well as other occasions in the life of the church such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and the Great Vigil of Easter.

REHEARSALS for the choir are on Sundays at 9:30 am and after the 10:30 servies September through May.

THE SUMMER CHOIR is open to all and sings on Sundays at the 10:30 Choral Eucharist. There are no week night rehearsals The choir rehearses at 9:30 a.m. during June, July, and August.

The Children’s Choir is for elementary school aged children. Rehearsals are each Sunday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Room (downstairs) from September through May. The choir is connected with the Christian education program and learns about the church seasons, our reason for being and for basic musicianship. Our goal is to have children sing at the 10:30 liturgy at least once a month as well as at Christmas, Easter and Pentecost.

Previous experience in choirs or extensive musical knowledge is NOT necessary to sing in the choirs; only an ability to match pitches and a willing spirit are needed.
