2017-2018 School Registration will be open to current enrolled families beginning 2/6/17.  If you are a returning student registration fee will be $50.00 for the first child and $25.00 for the second child.  Open registration to the public will begin on 2/22/17 and registration fee for all new students will be $100.00 for the first child and $75.00 for the second child.  Our teacher to student ratio in our classrooms is below the state requirement in order to be able to give your child individual attention.  For this reason it is best to register early to ensure that your child has a space in the class that you wish.

St. Mark’s Preschool/Kindergarten offers fun and exciting programs for children 12 months of age to 5 years old.  St. Mark’s Preschool has been operating for over 55 years and has always enjoyed a reputation of excellence.  The families we serve are our best references.

St. Mark’s Preschool is a ministry of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.  We are an exciting outreach commitment to the LaGrange community that is supported by the church. St. Mark’s Preschool was founded to provide a caring environment for preschool children where God’s love can be experienced.

What We Teach

Through a variety of activities appropriate for each child’s age and developmental level, he or she develops self-expression, self-control, and an interest and joy in learning. Above all, each child is provided the opportunity to develop a positive self-image through loving care and interaction with others.

St. Mark’s Preschool bases its program practices on current knowledge in the fields of early childhood education and child development as well as on personal knowledge of each child. The program stresses developmentally appropriate practices that value the uniqueness of each child and the stage of development in which each child is operating.

Classes Offered:

Toddlers 2 or 3 days weekly

The one-year-old program focuses primarily on speech, music and art. This is usually the first time that a child is away from Mommy and Daddy, and is vitally important in beginning a positive school attitude. This program utilizes verbalization and gross motor skills in each activity. The one-year-old class is the most unstructured of the classes at St. Mark’s Preschool/Kindergarten focusing on play as a learning tool. A child entering this class must be one before August 1.

Two Year Old Classes  3, or 5 days weekly (MWF or M-F)

The two-year-old program builds on using play as a learning tool. The children will also have circle time and table time along with teacher-directed play. Emphasis is on sharing, taking turns, verbalization, gross and fine motor skills. Basic colors, shapes and counting are also introduced.

Three Year Old Classes 2, 3, or 5 days weekly

The three-year-old program continues with skills introduced in the two-year-old program, but more in-depth. Circle and table times are longer. Teacher-directed play is more defined with children following simple two or three step instructions. Along with colors, shapes, counting and pre-writing skills, the alphabet is introduced and name recognition begins.

Four Year Old Classes

The four-year-old program is one of the more structured classes at St. Mark’s Preschool/Kindergarten. Although teacher-directed play is utilized, more table and circle times are used. Emphasis is on name, letter formation, letter sounds, number recognition and sight words. Classes focus on literacy, pre-reading skills, and vocabulary development using a variety of literature and experiences and developing math skills which include calendar activities, counting one to one correspondence, graphing, and place value . The goal of the four-year-old program is to prepare the child for a positive year in kindergarten.

We offer these options for four-year old classes:

  • 2, 3 or 5 days weekly (for younger 4’s)
  • 5 day class that meets on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Friday for older 4’s

Chapel is held weekly for the 3’s and 4’s. Chapel begins with singing Bible songs and reciting The Lord’s Prayer followed by a short lesson which consists of Bible stories and biblical truths held true by all Christian denominations.

Music and Movement

Music is an important part of the St. Mark’s Preschool/Kindergarten school experience and is used as a teaching aid. We have a full time music teacher that makes it possible to offer music to our students every day. Students have the opportunity to experiment with different instruments, and music classes incorporate a lot of movement and dance. St. Mark’s Preschool/Kindergarten students perform several programs each year.

Science and Spanish

Our 3 and 4 year old classes have Science and Spanish once a week by a teacher that comes into the classroom.  We introduce the basic Spanish lessons.  Our science is hands-on.
